This is a very interesting version of the origin of Chinese Animals Zodiac.
A legend said that the Jade Emperor wished to select 12 animals as his palace guards. When the news was announced, there were many animals who were keen.
The first one was the Cat. During that time, the Cat and the Rat were neighbours and good buddies. So, the Cat shared the news with the Rat and asked his neighbor Rat to register and sign up for both of them. However, the Rat was always running around and has forgotten to sign up for the Cat. Perhaps, that was the reason why they became mortal enemies since then.
On the day for selection at the palace, Ox was first in line. So, the Rat secretly climbed onto the Ox's back and jumped in front of him. Although the Tiger and Dragon were upset when they saw that, they could only lined up behind the Ox. The Rabbit found it unfair too, and as he was smaller in size, he managed to hop in front of the Dragon and succeeded.
This made the Dog angry and he bit the Rabbit. As punishment, the Dog was sent to the back of the line. The Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey and Rooster too tried to outwit each other and fought amongst themselves to get ahead in line. After everything was finally settled, the Pig strolled in and felt fortunate that he was still able to get the last spot in the line.
Of course, this is only a story. Hope you have enjoyed reading it and it helped you to remember the 12 Chinese Animals Zodiac
